“With an homage to the pulsing piano melodies and indelible electric guitar riffs of classic pop-rock, this Saskatoon foursome go for a generational collision, capturing an old-school vibe within a contemporary kaleidoscope of rhythm, lyrics and low-fi pop rock riffs that earworm into your consciousness. The track’s accompanying music video showcases the band interspersed with places of travel — dimly lit, brightly coloured, black and white, in and out of focus.” -Darryl Sterdan, Tinnitist (https://tinnitist.com/2021/04/14/the-great-fuss-show-off-their-pop-smarts-with-hairbrain/)

tHE gREAT FUSS
SaskMusic describes: “The Fuss presents a beautifully varied show, possessing an energy that is infectious with the dynamic voice of Pete Oldridge complimented by his chiming, rhythm-chopping guitar along with the scintillating riffs of Chris Valleau.” Drummer Erik Sample and Keyboardist Katherine Jones became permanent fixtures early in 2018 and the group, which initially formed in 2016, and spent the past year playing memorable shows, including opening for Hooded Fang on the Main Stage of Saskatchewan’s prestigious Ness Creek Music Festival (with the performance being re-broadcasted on Sasktel’s On Demand programming), and performing in front of a sold out crowd at the Coors Event Centre. The group has also been working on honing recordings for their second album.
The band has been honoured to receive recognition for their previous studio efforts. The album received a "Top Album" designation from Divide and Conquer Music, scoring a 4.2/5. Reviewer Rebecca Rothschild remarked: "This is the kind of rock band I’ve been waiting to hear... This is raunchy feel good rock that makes me wanna spaz out on the dance floor. Their self-titled album The Great Fuss wooed me from the first track to the last. It’s that damn good." The album was also included in SaskMusic's top albums list and three of the songs from the album were included as top and semi-finalists in the Canadian Songwriting Competition (songs Terror in the Land, Set Yourself Right, Double Rainbros). Top ten in Searchlight’s Provincial rankings for their song Chains.
Many seemingly insignificant occurrences brought the individuals in The Great Fuss together. The back of an RCMP truck in remote northern community, a live auction in Ontario, and a (reluctant) acceptance of bandannas all factored into the story of how The Great Fuss was assembled. You're encouraged to put the pieces together how you wish, much like the lyrical content of their eponymous release. The Great Fuss recorded and produced their first album in songwriter Pete's home studio, with Pete also wielding the production controls. The result is an album of raucous gems and singable melodies. The Great Fuss is now supporting their release with a series of shows throughout the prairies. Since forming 3 years ago, The Great Fuss have released a described as a cross-breeding between 1960s British Invasion mixed with modern rock elements (think: the Kinks just had a baby with Spoon). The group continues work in studio on their sophomore album, now well underway, with release and promotion scheduled for June of 2019.
